GALLERY - MINI BREAK TO YORKSHIRE |
A busy morning started with getting on to the coach at 9am for the drive to Pickering. Arriving at Pickering Station, the coach driver, Paul, impressed us with the confident way in which he drove the coach into the packed car park. Later on we were even more impressed to hear that he had reversed the coach back out of that car park, reportedly without a problem. None of the rest of us would have dared to attempt that! At Pickering we got into a reserved coach on one of the steam trains operated by the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The old-fashioned coach, with rooms off a corridor, reminded many of trips long ago and took us, through wooded dales and a taste of the Yorkshire Moors, to Goathland where we reconnected with the coach. Goathland is known (to some) as Aidensfield, the village where the TV series 'Heartbeat' is set. The station there was used as Hogsmeade Station in the first Harry Potter film, 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'.
From Goathland we were driven to Whitby which we arrived at in time for a late lunch. Knowing the reputation held by Whitby, which is still an active fishing port, most of us ate fish in one form or another. We had a few hours to look around Whitby before being returned to our hotel in Harrogate.
